The Martyrs

A martyr is one who gives his or her life for Christ; the word is Greek for "witness". A great-martyr suffered torture as well, a hieromartyr was a clergyman, a virgin-martyr an unmarried woman, and a new-martyr one of the Church's more recent witnesses. A passion-bearer faced death in a Christ-like way. Below are the martyrs whose lives Orthros carries.
