The life of St Euphemia the All-Praised

They were found and brought before him, and for many days they were tortured, and not one of them gave way. He sent the rest to the emperor and kept Euphemia back, being the youngest of them, thinking she would break if she were left alone.

She did not. They bound her to a wheel set with blades, and the wheel stopped and would not turn, and an angel took her from it and healed her. They led her to a furnace, and the two soldiers who were to put her in saw angels standing in the flames and said that they also were Christians, and they were given to the beasts. At the last she was put into the arena, and the beasts would not touch her. One she-bear gave her a small wound, and at that she died. The ground shook, and in the confusion her parents took her body and buried it near the city.
