The New Martyrs
Witnesses of the Church's later centuries.
The Church first gave the title of New Martyr to those who died for Christ under heretical rulers, as the first martyrs had died under pagans. Later it was given to the Church's martyrs under Islamic rule and under the atheist regimes of modern times, above all Communist ones. Here are the 25 lives of those the calendar names as New Martyrs or New Confessors, by the day of their feast.
