The life of St Golinduc of Persia
When her husband learned that she had left him for the Christian faith, he complained to the king, and neither the king's own pleading nor that of the court's great ladies could turn her back. For her refusal she was shut away in a fortress for eighteen years, beaten, threatened, and once thrown among venomous snakes that would not harm her; when men were sent to defile her, she was kept from all harm. Sources differ on which king's reign holds which part of this story, but agree in its substance.
She was at last set free, and when the persecution in Persia eased she began to preach Christ openly. In her final days she journeyed to Jerusalem to pray at the holy places, and died on her way home in the year 591, at a church of the martyr Sergius.
