The life of Agathopedes, Theodulus and Their Companions
When the persecution intensified, the two continued preaching openly rather than going into hiding, and the governor Faustinus had them brought to trial.
Neither could be persuaded by threats or flattery to renounce Christ, even when Theodulus was falsely told that his elder companion had already given in. After repeated imprisonment, during which both are said to have shared the same dream of being shipwrecked and cast safely onto shore in shining garments, they were finally condemned to be drowned in the sea with stones bound to their necks. Their bodies washed ashore soon after and were recovered and buried with honor by the local Christians, who kept their memory together as companions in a shared death.
