Orthros for your assistant
The free, sourced Orthros library, opened to the assistant you already use: Claude, ChatGPT, or any MCP client.
What it is
Orthros is a library of prayers, Scripture, the calendar and the Church's teaching, each page with its source. This opens that library to the assistant you already talk to, so that when you ask it about the feast, the saint of the day or a prayer, it can read Orthros's own text instead of answering from memory.
It is a library your assistant reads from. It is not a spiritual adviser, and there is no AI inside Orthros.
https://mcp.orthros.app/mcpThat is the whole setup: paste the address into your assistant's connector settings. Step by step for each assistant.
How it behaves
- FreeNo account, no sign-up, no key, and no Orthros+. Nothing a person can read in the app for free is behind this door.
- Read-onlyIt only reads. It keeps no personal data and has no access to your rule, your journal or anything you write in the app.
- Quoted, never paraphrasedEach answer is the stored text, with its source, licence and attribution. The assistant is asked to quote it exactly and to name where it came from.
- Pointed to the parishFor a question of practice, such as how to fast or how to pray, the answer sends the person to their priest and parish. Orthros does not advise, and nothing is generated.
What is inside
- The prayers, in their received wording, and the prayers for each need
- Scripture in four translations, and the Psalter by kathisma
- The calendar for 2025 to 2035, New and Old, with its saints and feasts
- The fasting guide and the great feasts
- The Prologue from Ochrid and the Lives of the saints
- The hymns of the eight tones, and the services part by part
- The glossary, and the teaching: catechesis, the Creed, the mysteries, the Councils
- Learn to Chant, the recipes for fasting days, and the Help Center
15 tools in all. What is left out, and why, is on the documentation page.
An example
“When is All Saints Day?”
Claude answered with the Orthros tool: the Sunday of All Saints is kept on the Sunday after Pentecost, which in 2026 fell on June 7.
Behind the answer, Orthros's feast page says the day is fifty-six days after Pascha, kept in the East on that Sunday and not on the Western November 1, and lists its date for each year. The calendar for June 7, 2026 names the Sunday of All Saints on both the New and the Old Calendar.
The facts above are what the tools get_teaching and get_day return. The exact requests and answers are on the documentation page.
Other things to ask: what saints are commemorated today on the Old Calendar; to read Psalm 50 from the Orthros edition; what theosis is; for a strict-fast recipe; to be taught Tone 4; what Kathisma 17 contains.
Questions of practice belong with your priest and parish. Orthros is not an official work of any Church body. Write to help@orthros.app.
