The life of St Eutychius
He suffered a great deal for it in his own city at the end of his life: starved, beaten with rods of iron, thrown to burn, and then thrown before wild animals. The Church remembers that when a lion was loosed on him it would not touch him but instead spoke in a human voice and gave glory to God, to the astonishment of everyone watching. In the end he was beheaded there in Sebastea, at the very start of the second century.
