The life of St Severian of Sebaste
He himself was not counted among that company, though another man of the same name was, and the two should not be taken for one another.
About six months after the Forty had died, Severian was himself brought to trial for his confession of the Christian faith. He was tortured at length, calling on God through his suffering for the strength to endure it. In the end he was hanged, weighted down with a stone at his neck and another at his feet, and there he died. The Christians of Sebaste carried his body home, where many came to honor him and to seek his prayers.
