The life of St Antipas of Pergamum
The priests of that city hated him for casting the local demons out of the people who worshipped them, and in their rage they dragged him to the temple of Artemis and put him into a bull of bronze made red-hot in the fire, the vessel they used for burning sacrifices to their idol. He prayed aloud from inside it, asking God to take his soul and to keep the Christians steady in the faith, and he died as quietly as if he had lain down to sleep.
