St Gerasimus the New of Cephalonia

St Gerasimus the New, ascetic of Cephalonia (1579)

Gerasimos was born around 1509 in the Peloponnesian village of Trikala, to Demetrios and Kale of the noble Notaras family, and gave himself to monastic life while still young. On Mount Athos he received the great schema and trained under the ascetics there before setting out on a long pilgrimage that carried him through Jerusalem, Sinai, Antioch, Damascus, Alexandria, and other places across Egypt.

Remembered on October 20 on the New Calendar and November 2 on the Old Calendar.
