Paramon and Companions

Martyr Paramon and Companions

Paramon lived in the Roman province of Bithynia during the persecution under the emperor Decius, when the regional governor imprisoned some three hundred and seventy Christians and pressed them to renounce their faith and sacrifice to the pagan gods. Paramon spoke out openly against the governor's cruelty and confessed himself a follower of Christ before all who were gathered.

The life of Paramon and Companions

For this he was subjected to harsh torture along with the rest of the prisoners, and in the end he and all three hundred and seventy of his companions were beheaded together for their refusal to abandon the faith.

Very little beyond this bare outline has come down to us about Paramon or those who died with him; even the sources that preserve his memory give only the same brief account, without further detail of his life before that day or the names of those who suffered at his side. The Church nonetheless keeps his memory, together with theirs, honoring a company of martyrs who chose death together rather than deny Christ.
