A human voice. Never a generated one.

Orthros Recordings gathers eight hymns sung by founder Demetri Panici, including the five-hymn From the Liturgy collection from Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago. Spoken readings remain in preparation. The app also has ambience, personal audio, and optional music-service sources.

Orthros+ is the recorded voice, and the threads between everything.

Open a hymn to read its text, inspect its source, and begin playback. From the Liturgy hymns can also be downloaded for offline listening. A reading listed elsewhere in the library is not proof of an available recording.

One collection, played continuously

Open Audio, then Orthros Recordings. Starting any hymn builds the collection into a continuous playlist. Now Playing provides next, previous, shuffle, and repeat controls across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The Ninth Ode and the Praises each carry their own coordinated Day and Vigil cover from the shelf into playback.

WHAT IS INSIDE

The greats and the desert Fathers, the martyrs, the American saints, and the women of the Kingdom; every parable of the Lord and every Sunday Gospel of the year; the Creed opened article by article, the Lord’s Prayer in its eight petitions, the miracles, the teaching Sundays, and the days of Pascha. Scripture passages, saints’ lives, and commentary are distinct texts with their own source references.

Chant and ambience

Communion Quiet is an optional chant bed, and fresh installs begin silent. Choose it or another available source in Audio, then use Now Playing to adjust playback. Optional music-service content keeps its own source and account requirements. The app points you back to the living services: this is sung, entire, at your parish, go and hear it live.

A library, not a feed

You choose what to hear. Orthros Recordings uses a continuous queue only after you start a hymn. Use the shared playback controls and sleep timer for available audio. Downloads remain on the device where you download them. Watch and CarPlay offer their own audio views; prepare them on your phone first.
