Audio in Orthros
Find sacred reading, ambience, and personal audio in one place. Each item shows its own source and availability.
How to open Audio and use playback controls
A human voice. Never a generated one.
Orthros’s spoken library is intended to be recorded by human readers. Those recordings are in preparation. The app also has ambience, personal audio, and optional music-service sources, each with its own playback availability.
Orthros+ is the recorded voice, and the threads between everything.
A reading listed in the library is not proof of an available recording. Open the item in the current build to check its source and playback state. Reading texts remains free.

The Creed, opened

Chant
Ambience and sound
The greats and the desert Fathers, the martyrs, the American saints, and the women of the Kingdom; every parable of the Lord and every Sunday Gospel of the year; the Creed opened article by article, the Lord’s Prayer in its eight petitions, the miracles, the teaching Sundays, and the days of Pascha. Scripture passages, saints’ lives, and commentary are distinct texts with their own source references.
THE PLANNED SPOKEN EXPERIENCE
- IThe Life, or the GospelRead word for word, the Life of the saint, or the parable in Scripture itself.
- IIOpened by the FathersHow the Church has heard this passage, the reading you would be given from the ambo.
- IIIThe prayer, word for wordSo you can pray along, not merely listen, the words already on your lips.
- IVKept silence, then your parishA held pause, not dead air. And every track ends by pointing you back to the church.
Chant and ambience
Choose an available ambience or chant source in Audio, then use Now Playing to adjust it. Optional music-service content keeps its own source and account requirements. The app points you back to the living services: this is sung, entire, at your parish, go and hear it live.
A library, not a feed
You choose what to hear. Use the shared playback controls, queue, and sleep timer for available audio. Downloadable recordings remain on the device where you download them. Watch and CarPlay offer their own audio views; prepare them on your phone first.
- Downloads & offline listening
- A sleep timer
- iPhone, iPad & Mac
- Surfaced by the calendar
