Holy Women

The Church honours holy women of every age and calling. Orthros carries 82 lives of holy women gathered here by the titles the calendar gives them, some with those who suffered with them: myrrhbearers, women Equal to the Apostles, prophetesses and righteous women, great martyrs and virgin-martyrs, holy mothers, abbesses and nuns, a deaconess, and empresses, queens and princesses. Many more holy women are kept in the calendar by their names alone, and are found by the day of their feast.
