Our Holy Mother Methodia of Kimolos (1865)

A nun of the little Cycladic island of Kimolos, drawn to the church from childhood. Married to a sailor to please her parents, she was soon widowed when he was shipwrecked, and gave herself to the monastic life, tonsured Methodia.

She prayed almost without ceasing, fasted strictly, and in Lent received no one; at other times women came to her in crowds to find a refuge from the storms of life, and her words led many to repentance. She reposed in 1908 and was glorified in 1991.
