The life of St Euthymius of Suzdal
He became a close friend of Sergius of Radonezh, visiting him more than once over the years, a bond close enough that later tradition remembers Euthymius as one of Sergius's regular interlocutors. In 1352 Prince Boris of Suzdal asked the Caves monastery to send a monk capable of founding a new community in his city, and the choice fell on Euthymius, who established there a monastery dedicated to Christ's Transfiguration and served as its abbot for more than fifty years. Under his governance the monastery gained a reputation for the same austerity he had practiced from his youth, along with a name for miracles worked through his prayers both during his life and after his death. He reposed in 1404 or 1405, and a century later the Church numbered him among the saints, renaming the monastery he had founded in his honor.
