The life of St Titus the Wonderworker

His fasting and his gentle bearing won him the affection of the brothers there, who in time asked that he be ordained a priest, a request that reflected the trust his community had already placed in him. He is remembered as a man whose inward purity brought with it a gift for working miracles, and this reputation drew both monks and laypeople to him for spiritual direction over the course of his life. When the iconoclast persecution reached the Studion community, as it reached so many others of that generation, Titus stood firmly for the veneration of icons, refusing the compromise many around him were pressed to accept. He lived to an advanced age before his death, remembered chiefly through this combination of quiet monastic constancy and firm public witness during a difficult era for the Church.
