The life of St Nikolai of Ochrid
His preaching and writing brought him wide recognition, enough that he came to be called Serbia's new Chrysostom for the depth and eloquence of his theology.
In 1921 he was placed in charge of the diocese of Ohrid in Macedonia, recently returned to Serbian church administration, where he undertook a substantial missionary effort before being transferred back, in the early 1930s, to his original see of Zica. He is remembered above all for compiling the Prologue from Ohrid, a day by day collection of the lives of the saints paired with hymns, reflections, and homilies for the whole of the church year, a work that has since become one of the most widely read devotional books in the Orthodox world, still consulted by those researching the very lives it first gathered together. He died on the eighteenth of March, 1956, and was formally received into the calendar of saints of the Serbian Orthodox Church by unanimous decision of its bishops in 2003.
