The life of St George the Confessor of Mitylene
Banished again under Leo the Armenian, he reposed in exile at Cherson, and at the hour of his death a bright star was seen shining over Mytilene.
St George the Confessor, bishop of Mitylene (ca. 820)
A monk from his youth, marked by deep humility, who suffered as a confessor of the icons under the iconoclast emperors and was later raised to the see of Mytilene on Lesbos. His life shone with purity and compassion; he was given the gift of wonderworking, casting out unclean spirits and healing the sick, and helping all in need.
