The life of Herodion, Agabus, Asyncritus and companions
He was made a bishop, and he suffered hard usage for it: they beat him about the head, struck his mouth with stones, and stabbed him in the legs. When those who did it went away thinking him dead, he rose and went on serving the apostles. He was with Peter at Rome, and on the day Peter was crucified he was beheaded, and many other Christians with him.
Agabus was given the spirit of prophecy. He foretold the famine that came in the days of Claudius, and at Caesarea he bound his own hands and feet with Paul's girdle to show how the Jews at Jerusalem would bind the man it belonged to. He preached in many countries and turned many from the idols.
Rufus was bishop at Thebes in Greece, Asyncritus in Hyrcania, Phlegon at Marathon in Thrace, and Hermes in Dalmatia. All of them suffered for Christ, and all of them came at last to His kingdom.
