The life of Stachys, Apelles, Amplias and companions
Amplias and Urban were likewise made bishops by Andrew, in Diospolis and in Macedonia, and both were killed by pagans angered at their destruction of idols, though sources differ on exactly where.
Narcissus, appointed bishop of Athens by the apostle Philip, was tortured and put to death by idol worshippers for his outspoken preaching. Apelles served as bishop of Heraclea and brought many people there to the Christian faith. Aristobulus, brother of the apostle Barnabas, is remembered here too, though his own fuller story, of preaching the Gospel as far as Britain, is kept on his own separate feast day earlier in the year. Together these six men carried the apostolic mission from Jerusalem outward into Byzantium, Greece, Macedonia, and beyond, most of them sealing their labor with their own blood.
