September 14, the Exaltation of the Precious Cross, is kept as a strict fast though it is a great feast, for on this day we venerate the instrument of our salvation with bodily self-denial, remembering the Lord's word that we must take up our own cross daily and follow Him. Wine and oil are permitted if it falls on a weekend. Keep the fast and the veneration of the Cross with your parish priest.
